5.1 Teaching language
How do I want to teach language? It needs to be suitable for every skill and grammar should be very important. The assignments and lesson material needs to be useful and spoken interaction is a skill I do think is important. If I jumble it together, I would think that my teaching methods would steal ideas from the cognitive and communicative methods. Yet, it should have the students thinking about and craving for more knowledge themselves. This is why I think would go for the lexical re-emergence & learner independence method. I do think that the student is heavily responsible for doing research about a language, however the teacher needs stimulate their train of thoughts. To achieve this goal, I want to use various drama activities in class. These activities might correspond with the learning styles the students might have. Within these activities, the students need to discuss or express their opinions, in order to improve their communication skills. This way the students might gain intrinsic motivation and start to do research themselves.
I also want to try TPRS. This is the abbreviation of Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Story telling. This is a method, I have not discussed in assignment 4. It basically uses story telling and drama as the base of the lessons. I do think this method is effective, by reason of me memorising history, when the teacher used the method. The class got immerged and our intrinsic motivation got triggered.
