Black Children are Verbally Deprived

Walt Wolfram

This chapter deals the question “are black children verbally deprived?” This question stems from the history between the differential power relations amongst the African- American citizen and the working class of the Anglo-American. Due to this relation, there are still some racist myths lingering. Thanks to one of these groups dominating the economy, the other group would be seen as lacking. This myth was also created by a misconception about the language patterning. While it seems unorganised, the dialect is grammatically patterned. Even though the black culture is highly verbal, by cause of the social and political inequality, they are labelled as inferior. The writer has stated that he was against this proposition.

It is quite cruel to see that the differences in power would discriminate the other group. However, that is how the world and humanity works. Whenever you look different, you will most likely be judged on your appearance. It doesn’t matter in which country you reside. You will be look down upon. Thus, you have to work twice as hard in order to get same recognition as the dominating party. There are enough black children that live in poverty, but that does not mean that they are verbally deprived. They can communicate with both adults as children. These people will not hesitate to say what is on their mind. That alone assures me that this myth has been busted.
