4.2 Personal experience
I was taught English in a manner of drilling words at secondary school, first class. During these lessons we had to learn the words because of the many sudden pop quizzes. It took for about two weeks, before I forgot half of the words, after these pop quizzes. In my third year of secondary school, I was introduced to more creative ways of expending my English vocab and structure. I grew to like the language a bit more, because of the manner how I gained vocab and structure. The MBO was however not motivating at all. There was a lot of creativity and room to improve my reading, speaking and listening skills, but there was barely any grammar theory involved. This is the reason why I had a lot of trouble with the grammar course of this study program.
Activities where I had to think (puzzle) and to do things physically were the best methods of learning the English language. I learned English through gaming, singing and the media. This helped me to get sufficient grades at these courses. However, I had trouble with learning the language in class, because there was a pressure from the taking tests and deadlines. When there was no pressure about these things at all, I noticed the joy in learning new things about the language. This feeling could be, due to me maturing. I always have liked learning languages, but I never aspired to do something with it, until now.
